Maize-inhabiting fungi Ustilago maydis and Fusarium verticillioides were chosen as models for studying the molecular basis for fungal interactions in planta. The metabolome and transcriptome of the two fungi were analyzed when grown separately or as they interact in liquid Czapek-Dox broth medium, two and five days after inoculation. This research was funded by the National Science Foundation grant EF-0723451.
